About

I’m Andrew — something of a Third Culture Kid, now settled in Seattle after a decade-plus of time overseas that took me through Taiwan, China, Malawi, Zambia and Los Angeles before landing me in the Pacific Northwest. These days I work in enterprise ad sales, but the throughline of my life has always been a mix of the intellectual and the physical.

In the mountains

Most of my free time goes to the mountains. I ski, climb, and mountaineer across the Cascades and beyond — the remote, hard-to-reach places with dramatic scenery are what I chase. You can see more on my climbing page.

Reading & ideas

I read widely across literature, philosophy, and history, with a particular pull toward classical traditions. Years of studying Mandarin (and some classical Chinese) shaped how I think about language and history; I’m currently working on my French.

Keeping sharp

Outside the mountains, I train seriously — lifting and conditioning that pays off on long days at altitude. I also play piano, which scratches a different itch entirely.

Here in the PNW

The Pacific Northwest suits me: mountains an hour or two in most directions, water everywhere, and the kind of weather that makes a warm room and a good book feel earned.
